Correct: Organ pipes: These are from St. Stephen’s Cathedral – from the so-called “Kauffmann organ” (1960-1991) – and they were given a second life, here in the House of Music.

In the cathedral fire of April 12th, 1945, the cathedral organ or giant organ, was completely destroyed. During the last days of World War II, looters started a fire in downtown Vienna, which spilled over to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. It was not until April 23rd, 1952 that the cathedral could ceremoniously reopen.

In 1960 the cathedral recieved a new organ, the so-called “Kauffmann organ“, which was still in use until 1991. In 2017, the dismantling of the giant organ began, for restoration and adaptation purposes. Since October 4th, 2020, the new “Westemporen Organ” is being played in St. Stephen‘s.
